TONIGHT! LA! You have to check out this amazing show! Curated by Mike Mitchell, one of the baddest bad asses on the internet… this show features a boat load of incredible contemporary artists that have made OUTER SPACE themed art! I really wish I could be in California for this show. If you’re any where near LA you have to go to the opening tonight. It’s going to be insane! More info at: nineteeneightyeight.com

Here are the two pieces I made for the show. One inspired by the 1986 explosion of the Challenger shuttle, and one inspired by the Hubble space telescope!

“A twist on the traditional artist’s print, each print available through Braddock Tiles is a crafted collaboration between Braddock Tile factory and an individual artist. Braddock Tiles, producer of beautifully crafted artisanal art objects such as these limited runprints, embosses and hand inscribes the edition number on the front with the artist’s name on the back.”  ~ braddocktiles.org

Living in a rustbelt city, I get excited when projects like this appear on my radar. There is no perfect storm for economic development in cities like Toledo Ohio or Braddock PA, but it is clear to me that the arts are no question going to be a big part of any solution to our hard times.

I look forward to hearing more updates about the Braddock Tile project… with the backing of SWOON it’s bound for success… financially? Who knows? Culturally? No question about it.

R. Clint Colburn

I would love to have a small piece of R. Clint Colburn’s art on my walls someday. The longer you look at his work, the better it gets. For as much as is going on in these pieces, they are somehow very subtle in impact. I really like his washed out color palette. www.rclintcolburn.com

I could stare at this for hours

“Countless creative men go about their lives and neglect their artistic interests and impulses. They may not do it for a living, but they are accomplished artists in one way or another. But work, stress, responsibilities and sometimes laziness mean that we leave our cameras, brushes and instruments untouched for months or years. This, we do out our peril, and in doing so, we neglect a fundamental part of what makes us who we are.

Artistic expression broadens the mind, opens the heart and encourages you to expand your perspectives. In short, it makes you a better and happier man.”mascularmagazine.com
