over the weekend the one and only banksy came to new york and put up a few pieces as perhaps promotional material for his new film ‘exit through the gift shop.’

in true new york fashion though, they were all defaced within a few hours of going up.

after a recent show at manhattan’s christopher henry gallery, brazilian artist claudio ethos headed out to brooklyn to paint this mural in williamsburg. coincidently or not – this is the same spot that banksy painted a couple of years ago.

soho has pretty much been cleaned up and turned into an outdoor mall these days but there’s still a few active walls here and there. in other nyc news – tonight at ad hoc art, legendary street photographer martha cooper is having a book release party / sticker swap to celebrate her new book “going postal.” be sure to check it out if you’re around. pictured here are celso, hacula, avone and ski acc in soho.

what makes street art good? technical skill certainly plays a a huge role but in my opinion, it’s placement and wit that really elevate a piece. this “forced” colaboration between GAIA and SKEWVILLE is a perfect example of such. GAIA’s wolf is technically good, but it’s the addition of “look mom, I’m a street artist” that makes it memorable. seen in an increasingly popular alley near the factory fresh gallery in bushwick, brooklyn.
