I don’t know how I missed this when it first made the internet rounds. Regardless of it’s upload date, it’s an extraordinary piece of art…

Artist and photographer Richard Mosse reveals the stories behind the making of his latest film, ‘The Enclave’ (2013), in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which will be shown in the Irish Pavilion at this year’s 55th Venice Biennale.

Growing up in Toledo, Ohio I was lucky to have two aunts living in NYC. One aunt in particular, my aunt Sally would often send me whatever was hot in New York. Usually that meant t-shirts and stickers. This kept me hyper aware of things that were going on outside of Toledo. It’s taken a long time to realize and understand the impact of my aunts…. but the fact that I was rocking FIDO DIDO t-shirts YEARS before 7-UP co-opted the brand makes me realize what a juvenile trendsetter I was. 😉

Long story short, it looks like the brand  / icon has sadly been abandoned. fidodido.com features outdated and un-updated tech… but thankfully their youtube page still has some of their iconic early 90’s videos:

From the artist: I am in the ritualistic process of constructing an identity-trying to align my personal experience with outer social, political, and sexual realities. In my attempt to create urban folk art (ala The Ramones), I use common materials and talk about everyday situations that make up a life. In general, my work deals with the intimacy, power, feminism, and human behavior. I confront embarrassing moments, unpleasant feelings, and difficult situations, while maintaining a wry humor that tempers the discomfort of my subject matter. Perhaps, this is related to my childhood obsession with the game Truth-or-Dare, and later, my worship of John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band. The images come to me as reactionary flashes to what I have heard, seen, or experienced. I literally cough them up. Hence my work is a visual diary, brimming with sweet suffering and sap, that rests in the space between memory and imagination. Through the use of confessing characters and tattle-tell personas I guide the viewer down a multi-layered narrative path.
