one of my biggest inspirations in college, and one of the biggest inspirations in starting a magazine 8 years ago was PLAZM, created by the Portland based design firm of the same name. it was always hard to find, and seemed to come out at it’s own pace, but every issue I could get my hands on I would look over a hundred times… Sign up for their newsletter, and pick up some back issues. If you like typography, or indy media at all.. this may float your boat.

charley harper

Charley Harper: Works on Paper 1961-1970 is the second exhibition for the Cincinnati-based gallery, Country Club. It looks like we can expect big things from this new gallery, something the midwest greatly needs.

This exhibition features original illustrations and paintings from classic books such as The Golden Book of Biology (1961, Golden Press) and The Animal Kingdom (1968, Golden Press). Also included in the exhibition will be original illustrations for Ford Times, Sohioan and various other publications from that time period. Most of this work has never been seen outside of Harper’s Studio.

This looks like an amazing show and if you’re in the Cincy, swing by Feb 23rd to May 3rd.

joel from the drama magazine (r.i.p.) has started a new project. if it’s even 1/10th as awesome as the drama, its still going to be one of the best designed things you’ve ever laid your eyes on. joel is awesome, and I just bought a 4 issue subscription because i know it wont disappoint.

if you are not rad enough to have been photographed in this new book by off bowery, then pick one up to see what all the cool kids were wearing in NYC for the past 5 years. if nothing else, this book is going to be a great time capsule to look at in 20 years. artists, writers and fashionistas all photographed in front of a door. more ground breaking than it sounds…
