From the press release:

Library Street Collective is proud to announce the opening of Rainbow City Roller Rink, an inflatable wonderland-turned-roller skating rink designed by acclaimed artist duo FriendsWithYou. Set inside 1001 Woodward Avenue and overlooking Campus Martius Park, the installation brings a colorful and whimsical experience to Downtown Detroit from November 30th, 2018 to January 27th, 2019. The project is supported by Bedrock Detroit and the Quicken Loans Community Fund.
Rainbow City Roller Rink presents a vibrant collection of weightless sculptures suspended from the ceiling of 1001 Woodward, hanging overhead as skaters traverse the rink’s striped floor and encouraging activity and exploration. Each balloon-like companion is minimal in form, composed of simple geometry and towering high above. The largest figure in the group features a rotating head and stands at over 30’ tall, reminiscent of carnivals or revolving signs off west coast highway roads. By dwarfing the audience, the totemic pieces trigger a sense of reverence, yet the softness and friendly features of these monoliths are welcoming and warm. The installation creates a surreal landscape intended to provoke an iconic and childlike awareness, and offers an opportunity to connect physically and psychologically with an energetic, ephemeral setting. Library Street Collective owner Anthony Curis looks forward to what the installation offers in terms of its interactivity, “The art of FriendsWithYou spreads a purity and positivity very rarely experienced outside of childhood, but is created for people of all ages. Their work has the power to take you out of the reality of the day to day and just be in the moment. We’re very excited to present such a seamless connection between art and activation in downtown for the holidays.”

“Convergent Visions” Faesthetic x @SXSW – Faesthetic #15 cc: @upso @krening @joncontino @capitalprinting

I am SO INCREDIBLY excited to announce the next issue of Faesthetic, which drops this weekend at SXSW. This issue serves not only as an art zine, but also as a catalog of SXSW’s art programing. From their site:

The idea for “Convergent Visions” took root in the halls of SXSW in 2017. After a mind-boggling keynote delivered by biochemist Jennifer Doudna, Faesthetic publisher Dustin Hostetler and creative director Karen Ingram bumped into Hugh Forrest, Chief Programming Officer of SXSW. This chance meeting sparked a conversation between Karen and Dustin that became a collaborative effort with the SXSW Art Program.

“Convergent Visions” probes various areas in science and technology through an artistic lens. Overarching themes include Design, Health and Wellness, Social Impact and the Intelligent Future become realized through the creativity vibrating and flowing from the minds and fingers of 30 international artists and designers.

New issue will be available for sale online in April. If you’re planning on going to SXSW this year, it will also be available at the merch booths!

I met a pretty rad dude today, that has a pretty consistently rad output of art coming out on a lot of different fronts. He makes small runs of zines filled with his art, and also posts things to tumblr and instagram as well. His name is Zachary Hobbs, and he is very tall. You should follow him.

Hit him up for one of his zines. They are amazeballs!
