Chicagoans, make a point of checking out Galerie F‘s fantastic new group show celebrating the You Are Beautiful project.

The show is PACKED with art, all reinterpreting the classic You Are Beautiful sticker. It was really cool to see how everyone approached their pieces sooo differently.

Head over to Logan Square before the show is over. Lot of pieces have already sold, but there are still some steals left! www.galerief.com

Consider funding this project to help spread You Are Beautiful around the world!

“After an extended residency in Andersonville, we plan to share at least one of these pieces with another community in the city. This is, in fact, one of our highest hopes for this campaign. We don’t want this message to stop in Andersonville. We want to show on the largest scale possible, the crucial role that public art plays in creating vibrant and healthy communities for all. By launching this campaign and successfully funding our efforts, we will be able to provide a road map for other communities to follow.”

SIGN PAINTERS the movie!

3:44 pm in art, design, movies, streets, video dustin hostetler

I had the pleasure of watching Sign Painters last night, and I highly recommend you check it out! It’s a graffiti writer, and graphic designer’s wet dream! It’s also a depressing commentary on progress and technology.

From the official press release:

“There was a time, as recently as the 1980s, when storefronts, murals, banners, barn signs, billboards, and even street signs were all hand-lettered with brush and paint. But, like many skilled trades, the sign industry has been overrun by the techno-fueled promise of quicker and cheaper. The resulting proliferation of computer-designed, die-cut vinyl lettering and inkjet printers has ushered a creeping sameness into our landscape. Fortunately, there is a growing trend to seek out traditional sign painters and a renaissance in the trade.”

You can watch it online today! Swing by their website, and enter “ghostsigns” for $1 off!
