About the Archive of Memory

The Archive of Memory project is an online digital archive featuring Audio, Video and Images of objects with personal stories attached to them.  Each object will be documented and cataloged in a visual based index of images that act as links to individual entries.  The stories about the objects will illustrate memories and personal histories of the individual owners themselves.  The object playing the role of catalyst and backdrop, providing a point of entry and reference in time/place.  By grounding memories in these objects aspects of the participants lives will be revealed beyond the surface level appearances, subtle aspects of materials will also play a role in the illustration of the subconscious and other unspoken qualities.

The long term goals of this project are to create a museum of personal memory where material possessions become “sites” of experience and reflection.  This will become primarily an online image archive with embedded audio/video and accompanying text.  Interactivity will be a main feature of the project as I will develop storytelling workshops based around the concept of memory as a generative material.  Participants will have the chance to further develop their stories in a creative setting with a focus on bringing in new associative and empowering elements to blend fiction/dreams with reality.

Donated physical objects will become used for future collaborative projects with interested artists and incorporated into an exhibition.  The project will function as a dialogue between artists and the general public where ideas will be shared and reinterpreted as material/catalyst for further exploration.  By opening the project up for collaboration and interpretation by outside artists, various sites of inquiry can be established, fusing artistic investigation with the local knowedge of the everyday.
