Artomatic 419, 2011

One of the amazing things about living in the Rustbelt, is the intense creative outbursts that can happen. The artists that choose to stay in this part of country truly want to be here… and it shows. Yes the creativity shines, but even more-so… it’s the effort behind the scenes that one can grow to appreciate.

A perfect example, is the Toledo based “ARTOMATIC 419” bi-annual events. This year marks the 4th Artomatic, and it was by far the best. With over 350 creatives involved, two abandoned warehouses transformed into giant community run galleries for a month… and best of all well over 8 thousand PLUS locals coming out to support the experience.

I made a short video documenting some of the art I saw on the first saturday:

During the second of the 3 Artomatic Saturdays, I had the pleasure of meeting Andy Detskas. He came in from Chicago to check out this Toledo-centric event and it was great to get his perspective on art from another (obviously better off) Rustbelt city.

Anyways… just wanted to remind you that we’re still alive out here.
