great minds think alike?

Several months ago, I started a music project called The Unknown Callers, and recently we set out to make a music video for one of the songs. Using old footage shot in July of 2006, I put together a creepy video for the new song “Panic Attacks Again!” performed by Golab. (lyrics by me)

The video was made for fun, and not much thought went into it beyond making it as weird as I could make it. Admittedly both myself and Joel from Golab are die hard Harmony Korine fans (How can you live in Ohio and not love Gummo?!) so it really shocked me to see this trailer today for Harmony’s new movie “Trash Humpers.” If I knew about the movie, would I have made the Golab video with the creepy grandpa mask? Probably… but it sure is a weird (and slightly amazing) feeling to find so many aesthetic similarities between the two youtube videos.

What do you think?

Art at the Mall

7:53 pm in art, conversations, design dustin hostetler

Following up on a recent post… It’s so amazing to go to the mall in Toledo, Ohio (of all places) and see Matt W. Moore‘s work proudly displayed at Sunglasshut. When I went inside to take pictures, the guy working told me Matt’s glasses are selling like gangbusters!

And then just down the hall, popping into Sephora we found a huge TokiDoki display. Amazing! From Mtn Dew to Converse & Scion… some big brands just get it. It’s a thrill to see artists being supported like this.

Akira Beard

WOW! I LOVE the work of San Francisco based Akira Beard!

“Made in America, by an American, for all Americans…” …the artworks consist of pop-iconic portraits that best symbolize the concept being described for that particular painting. Some of the ideas that I work with include identity, consumerism, defining art, altruism, individualism, and so on. The medium is watercolor, acrylic, paint marker, ink, and graphite on paper. The process begins with the concept, and from there I choose the figure that would be the poster person for such. From there it becomes a form follows function pursuit using the aesthetics/ mediums to visually express the desired idea/feeling, resulting in a loaded portrait. ~ Akira Beard
